ROAD TO SUCCESS / A SUMMARY OF 2015 GERMAN CUP FINAL4
SG Flensburg-Handewitt won the German Cup (DHB-Pokal) after a dramatic final game against SC Magdeburg (SCM). SG never stopped fighting, Danish player Anders Eggert scored the tie goal (24:24) and SCM couldn’t use the last ten seconds to score again. Both teams couldn’t break the draw at extra time and another Danish player of SG made the final touch. Goalkeeper Kevin Möller saved SCM’s Robert Weber’s seven meter throw.

Defending Champions League winner played their fifth consecutive final. They lost to THW Kiel in 2011, 2012, 2013 and Füsche Berlin last year. Flensburg won the title for the fourth time after 2003, 2004 and 2005.

After raising the cup, Coach Ljubomir Vranjes said; “These two days have been incredible. After four bloody years, we finally have the trophy”. SG Manager Dierk Schmäschke said; “Those were two incredibly great games, even if they have cost me a few more gray hairs. Now we celebrate in Flens-Arena.”

SC Magdeburg Coach Geir Sveinsson said; “I told my team that I want to see unconditional commitment. My team has kept it, I’m proud of them.”

Ljubomir Vranjes thanked all colleagues in the press conference; “Any player who also have not played, have contributed to this success. And the fans were outstanding.”

REIGN OF THE “SWEDE”S
Johan Mikael Jakobsson was the top scorer, Mattias Andersson was once again chosen as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

KRETZSCHMAR: COACH LJUBOMIR VRANJES IS IMPECCABLE
SPORT1 commentator Stefan Kretzschmar wrote; “The Final Four of The German Cup is always a great celebration of the handball family. This year’s final was one of the best, most exciting and fascinating finals in the history of the Final Four. Both teams have played and fought great. Congratulations to the unfortunate losers SC Magdeburg who experienced an unprecedented upswing this year. But of course SG Flensburg-Handewitt deserved to win the cup. The Flensburger have broken the spell. If you lose four times in a row, it created a certain sympathy. Coach Ljubomir Vranjes is an impeccable guy who gives everything for the team. And his boys go through fire for him.”
